Author Cheryl Reed in conversation with Jeffrey James Higgins about her new novel, Map of My Escape.
MAP OF MY ESCAPE:
Anti-gun activist Riley Keene and Chicago cop Reece Taylor survived a school shooting together. When Riley accidentally shoots Reece thirteen years later, an incident captured on film by an extortionist, she flees to a remote island. Riley’ s secret lover, Chicago politician Finn O’ Farrell, races to track her down before the extortionist and a corrupt police lieutenant find her. Meanwhile, the media are closing in on Finn about his mysterious role in that long-ago school shooting.
AUTHOR:
Cheryl L. Reed is the author of the nonfiction book Unveiled: The Hidden Lives of Nuns and the novel Poison Girls, which won the Chicago Writers' Association Book of the Year. A former staff editor and reporter at the Chicago Sun-Times and other publications, Reed's stories have won multiple awards, including Harvard's Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting. She has twice been awarded a U.S. Fulbright Scholar fellowship, first in Ukraine and then in Central Asia. She currently lives near the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. Visit her at cherylreed.com
